Work Experience

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas City

July 2019 – July 2023

Senior User Experience Designer

As a design leader at Blue KC, I worked with senior leadership to write job descriptions, recruit applicants and conduct interviews to staff a UX team. I advocated for better design and research tools while working with teammates to create and define team process. In this role I mentored and supported teammates, organized meeting agendas and facilitated weekly design reviews and team discussions.

Senior User Experience Designer

In this position, I formed collaborative partnerships with leaders in customer experience, product, marketing and engineering, using design to solve problems.

As a design lead, I designed the end-to-end experience for Blue KC’s primary mobile app. Upon its first release, the app immediately improved digital access for consumers. The app has performed extremely well in usability studies with end users. In partnership with product and customer experience teams, I have eliminated friction and frustration across several consumer experiences – reimagining telehealth, simplifying sign-up flows and fixing customer reimbursement.

Senior User Experience Designer

I conducted usability research in parallel of my design projects at Blue KC. I planned research studies, moderated usability tests and analyzed user feedback. I presented research findings, wrote surveys, built dashboards and conducted user interviews.

Senior User Experience Designer

As one of my first initiatives at Blue KC, I convinced technology leaders to invest resources in funding a design system. With their agreement, I created the Blue KC Design System. I built and documented digital design standards in a series of component libraries. I partnered with a 3-person engineering team to make it real. The Blue KC Design System is growing in adoption with the internal team and our external design partners.

Replica

Design System Lead

May 2022 – July 2022

This startup approached me for my expertise in Design Systems and Figma component libraries. As contractor, I crafted pixel-perfect components in a series of new design system libraries for the product design team at Replica. My design system deliverables accelerated Replica’s ability to ship new features for the core product.

Garmin International

February 2010 – July 2019

User Experience Designer III

Garmin Connect is a fitness app which caters to millions of users worldwide. I contributed to the growth and success of Connect for six years, leading thinking and design strategy for new web and mobile app experiences.

I delivered a modernized redesign of the Garmin Connect map, shaping the end-to-end experience, documenting requirements, defining functionality and crafting interaction design.

User Experience Designer III

As a design system specialist, I audited Garmin Connect across Android, iOS and web. I defined new components and variants in service of a 20-person design team. I created pixel-perfect libraries for each platform, shipping the earliest version of Garmin’s Design System.

Web/Interface Designer

As a UX specialist on the Marketing/Communications team, I created new design standards for Garmin.com. Using a phased approach, I contributed to a style guide and full visual refresh of the consumer website.

Web/Interface Designer

I was equal parts designer and developer in my UX work for Garmin.com. I reimagined Garmin’s online storefront. I revamped the primary entry point for map purchases and upgrades, which was a highly profitable source of revenue for the company. I teamed up with outdoor engineering to deliver a community experience that empowered geocachers to compete and connect.
